In my last post I mentioned The Princess Bride appearing in today's Pop Culture. I've decided to elaborate on that in this post. Famous character lines have been referenced in several famous films. For example:
- Love Actually (2003)
When Colin Firth and Lúcia Moniz are in the lake, she says "don't disturb the eels," a reference to the Shrieking Eels and a line from The Princess Bride . - Shrek 2 (2004)
When Shrek, Donkey and Puss are riding through the castle to stop Charming from kissing Fiona, Puss leaps off Donkey's back to fight and delay the guards chasing them. Shrek and Donkey stop but Puss tells Shrek to "Go, get your woman" then turns to face the guards saying "Time to repay my debt". This scene is a reference to a scene in The Princess Bride (1987) with Puss saying the identical lines that Inigo Montoya says (also in a very strong Spanish accent) allowing Westley to rescue Buttercup from her wedding to Prince Humperdinck. This points out the parallel between Puss and Inigo.
